Committees

The following is a list of the committees for the 2010/2011 school year and a brief explanation of the type of activity for each. We encourage parents and faculty to volunteer for these committees as they provide educational and social benefits for our children and will be a success as a result of your help.

To participate on a committee, you must be a registered member of the PTO for the 2010/2011 school year. If you wish to become a Room Parent or a McCabe Volunteer, you must first attend the Volunteer Training Program.  The overview/application can be found at this link: .  The Volunteer Handbook is here:

Committee	Chairperson	Coordinator	Description
Boys Choice	Leslie DiManna Jen Lombardo	To Be Announced	This committee plans, organizes, and runs a night out for the McCabe Boys and an escort. Previous events have been Mulligan’s Island, Paw Sox Game, and a dance.
By-Laws	Christie Spetrini	To Be Announced	This committee is responsible for reviewing the PTO Constitution and By-laws.  They make suggested changes to the Executive Board.  The Executive Board then distributes the accepted changes to be voted on by the membership.
Directory	Jen Lombardo	Sandi Brenner	Volunteers will be necessary to organize the 2010-2011 School Directory.  Volunteers are responsible for compiling, maintaining, and distributing the directory to our McCabe Families.
Family Events/Bingo	Executive Board	To Be Announced	This committee organizes McCabe family events.  Events may include Family Fair, May Breakfast, 50’s Dance, and Bingo.  Volunteers are needed to help with planning, organizing, and running the events.
Field Day	Jen Lombardo Jill Golden	To Be Announced	This committee works with Mrs. Marques-Jordan to plan Field Day.  Volunteers are needed to help with the distribution of drinks and to monitor the student activities.  Volunteers must be available during the school day for morning and afternoon sessions.
Food Drive	Jill Golden	To Be Announced	This committee organizes Food Drives throughout the year.  Volunteers are needed to collect food from the classrooms during the day, and to make baskets.
Fundraising	Executive Board	Leslie DiManna	This committee is in charge of planning and organizing fundraising for the PTO.  The money raised is used to enrich your child’s education through field trips, assemblies, etc.  Fundraising drives are scheduled as needed following the main fundraiser in October.
Garden	Jen Lombardo Jill Golden	To Be Announced	This committee in charge of maintaining the school’s landscaping such as weeding, planting, and watering.  This committee will work in conjunction with the Playground committee from time to time.
Girls Night Out	Michaela Fredrickson	Rhonda Maggiacomo	Committee members plan, organize, and run an event for the McCabe girls and an escort.  Members work on preparations prior to and during this event.
Holiday Craft Fair	Christie Spetrini	To Be Announced	This committee plans and operates the Holiday Craft Fair.  Volunteers will be responsible for organizing crafters, reserving tables, creating floor plans, organizing refreshments, and contacting the media and advertising outlets.  This event runs the 1st Saturday in December.
Holiday Gift Shop	Jen Lombardo Jill Golden Michaela Fredrickson	To Be Announced	This committee schedules and runs a holiday shop for McCabe students to purchase gifts for immediate family.  Committee members purchase the gifts (with PTO funds), set-up the shop, and help students with their selections.  Volunteers must be available during school hours on the days of the shop.
Membership Coordinators	Sarah Eager Jen Lombardo	Sarah Eager Jen Lombardo	The coordinators compile, organizes, and runs the Membership Drive.  The membership drives through the month of September, but parents and faculty may join at any time during the year.
Newsletter	Michaela Fredrickson Sarah Eager	To Be Announced	Plan and coordinate monthly newsletter in conjunction with McCabe faculty, PTO, and students.
Nominating	To Be Announced	To Be Announced	Two volunteers and a representative from the Executive Board are responsible for coordinating nominations and election as written in the By-Laws.  This committee begins in March and runs through elections in May.
Playground	Jen Lombardo Jill Golden	To Be Announced	This committee coordinates volunteers to maintain the existing playground and equipment.  An event is held twice a year in conjunction with the Garden Committee to do an opening and closing clean-up of the playground.  Playground/recess toys and playground mulch are also furnished by the PTO.
New McCabe Parent Information Committee	Michaela Fredrickson Christie Spetrini	To Be Announced	This committee will consist of a representative from the Executive Board and 1st grade parents.  The volunteers will make themselves available to assist Pre K and Kindergarten parents become acclimated to McCabe and provide answers to questions they may have.
Scholarship	Christie Spetrini	To Be Announced	This committee was established to provide a scholarship to a graduating high school student who attended Anna McCabe School.  This committee consists of the President and 2 faculty members.
Smithfield School Information	Executive Board	To Be Announced	Volunteers will rotate the responsibilities of attending the School Committee Meetings at the high school, and report on all pertinent information to the PTO membership. School Committee meetings are held on the 1st & 3rd Monday of the month.
Spirit Wear	Sarah Eager	To Be Announced	This committee coordinates the selection of items with the school logo, maintaining inventory, and filling orders.
Staff Appreciation	Jill Golden Jen Lombardo	To Be Announced	This committee organizes gestures of appreciation for the faculty and staff during Teacher Appreciation Week in May.  A second event is usually held in December as well.
Sunshine	Leslie DiManna	To Be Announced	This committee organizes sending thoughtful greetings to McCabe families, faculty, and staff for the purposes of condolence or congratulations.  Volunteers also work in conjunction with the Pre K and Kindergarten teachers for Orientation and Registration.
Volunteer Coordinator/ Trainer	Christie Spetrini	Christie Spetrini	The coordinator prepares a list of trained volunteers for the faculty to contact when they need volunteers.  The coordinator will be responsible for organize the list and give it to the school, plan and run trainings, and make sure that all volunteers are acquainted with school policies.
Volunteer Appreciation	Jill Golden	To Be Announced	This committee offers gestures of appreciation for those who have offered the McCabe community their time and efforts to help with programs, events, and in the classroom.
Website	Christie Spetrini	Matt Stevens	The website provides information to the McCabe community.  The website is maintained by the “PTO Web Guy”, Matt Stevens.  This committee is in charge of maintaining and compiling up-to-date information for the website.
